CALCULATION ENGINE & STANDARDS

Our Calculation Methodology

Transparent formulas, verification cadences, and precision rounding rules powering every TakeHomeKit calculator.

1. Mathematical Transparency & Exact Reverse Solving

Most online fee calculators only operate in one direction: you input a list price and they tell you your estimated profit. TakeHomeKit was engineered specifically to solve in reverse:

List Price P = ( Goal + ItemCost + ShipCost + FixedFee - ShipCharged × (1 - CommPct - ProcPct) ) ÷ (1 - CommPct - ProcPct)

When users specify a profit goal in dollars or margin percentage, our calculation engine mathematically derives the required list price in a single closed-form solution without iterative guess-and-check drift.

2. The Round-Up Safety Rule

Standard financial rounding (round-to-nearest) frequently causes sellers to receive 1 cent less than their goal due to fractional-cent platform commission splits. TakeHomeKit enforces a strict ceiling round-up to the next full cent on all reverse-price calculations:

  • If the unrounded solution is $30.3315, the calculator outputs $30.34.
  • This mathematically guarantees that your actual bank deposit will meet or exceed your profit target.
  • All arithmetic utilizes decimal-safe integer cent representations to eliminate IEEE-754 floating point precision drift.

3. Rate Schedules & Sourcing

Rate presets in TakeHomeKit reference published standard fee schedules with documented baseline dates and links to public platform help centers or fee documentation.

Standard SchedulesBased on standard non-promoted tier published rates as of October 2024.
Community & FeedbackRate updates are reviewed when platforms release official seller policy revisions.

4. Scope & Explicit Exclusions

To maintain reliability, TakeHomeKit is strictly scoped to transactional costs. Our calculators explicitly exclude:

  • Discretionary Ad Spend: Promoted listings, Etsy Offsite Ads, or PPC advertising.
  • Personal Income & Business Taxes: Individual tax obligations depend on bracket, state/provincial laws, and business entity structure.
  • Currency Conversion Spreads: 1.5%–3% cross-border exchange markups charged by credit card networks.
  • Buyer Sales Tax / VAT: Marketplaces remit sales tax under Marketplace Facilitator laws directly to tax authorities.
